2/17/2021 — Ten days after Mark and Jennifer over at Collectors Events Unlimited unveiled the first souvenir car for this year’s Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals, the second souvenir car for the event has been revealed. The Kool Kombi will surely be a popular piece when souvenir sales open up in Atlanta on April 7th. Convention-goers at the 21st Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals event will be able to purchase (an assumed limit of) three per paid ticket as this Kool Kombi is limited to 5,500 pieces. This is just the second time the Hot Wheels Kool Kombi has been released as a convention car. Six years ago at the Hot Wheels Collectors Convention in Los Angeles was the other time. The last sale of one of those on eBay topped $660 so you can bet collectors saw dollar signs with the announcement of this one today. This release features pink… Read more »
  • Team Transport duo will be 2021 Hot Wheels Legends Tour EXCLUSIVETeam Transport duo will be 2021 Hot Wheels Legends Tour EXCLUSIVE
2/12/2021 — Now this is cool! We can only hope that the 2021 #Hot Wheels Legends Tour goes on as planned this year as there will apparently be an exclusive #Team Transport duo sold at the tour stops. This #Walmart Exclusive SKU appeared on hotwheels.com today, and features two castings that have previously appeared in the Team Transport line: the Custom Corvette Stingray Coupe and the Carry On. Both feature a Hot Wheels Legends Tour (black & yellow) livery, in addition to the Walmart logo and the #21 for 2021. The card art even features the vehicles in front of a Walmart store. No word yet on how these will be sold should there not be a tour this summer, but if last year’s iD Bone Shaker was any indication, the remainder should end up at hobby dealers. Keep your eyes peeled! Read more »
  • LOVE IT or HATE IT: The Hot Wheels RANGE ROVER was Final Run’d in 1999.LOVE IT or HATE IT: The Hot Wheels RANGE ROVER was Final Run’d in 1999.
The #Final Run series was the Hot Wheels version of the double-edged sword. The cool thing was to see a retiring Hot Wheels model go out in style, BUT do the models really have to be gone for good? Hot Wheels castings come and go every year. For as many that make their debut, roughly the same amount are unceremoniously gone for good. That is why the Final Run series has such mixed reviews among collectors today. For those that remember when the series made its debut in 1999, the idea was to send these models out in style. Special wheels — mostly #Real Riders — and exclusive decos really gave these basic-level cars a premium look in this semi-premium line. The Hot Wheels #Range Rover was actually the first car on the chopping block as it was number #1 in the series of 12. No real reason was ever… Read more »

  • Collection Update: Venturing back to collect the Hot Wheels LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR LP 700-4Collection Update: Venturing back to collect the Hot Wheels LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR LP 700-4
Like many of you, the majority of my casting collections don’t start with the #First Edition release. I mean, it’s not much of a collection to begin with unless multiple variants are released right off the bat. My affinity for the Hot Wheels #Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 began in 2018 with the “Miura Homage” release as part of the 2018 HW Exotics series in the mainline that year. The homage paint scheme in red and gold really stood out to me, and there was no missing the super #Treasure Hunt variation. QUICK LINK! Find the Super Treasure Hunt Lamborghini Aventador for sale. All three were a must-have… Read more »
  • What ever happened to the Hot Wheels ’50s Chevy Truck? What ever happened to the Hot Wheels ’50s Chevy Truck?
It was the talk of the 2006 #Ultra Hots line. In the same year, it appeared as a #SDCC Exclusive and as a #Convention Vehicle. The Hot Wheels #’50s Chevy Truck was destined to ascend into Hot Wheels stardom. Hot Wheels ’50s Chevy Truck from the 20th Annual Collector’s Convention in 2006 (side view). The #’50s Chevy Truck had all the makings of a Hot Wheels hit. Cool, custom #Truck — designed by Larry Wood — with a rear-tilting truck bed that revealed a rear engine and painted drive shaft. The metal/metal tool was only to be used at premium, and the #Moving Part made it hard not to open. QUICK LINK! Find releases of the ’50s Chevy Truck on sale now. This particular release came out at the end of 2006 as part of the 20th Annual Collectors Convention in Garden Grove, California. It was given to convention ticket… Read more »

  • Collection Update: Just finished the Hot Wheels VOLKSWAGEN T1 PANEL collection — for now!Collection Update: Just finished the Hot Wheels VOLKSWAGEN T1 PANEL collection — for now!
Oh, to be able to go back in time and scoop up all the little orange Reese’s Pieces buses from the Hershey’s Pop Culture series in 2012… That’s what collectors wish they had done 9 years ago as the once easily attainable #Volkswagen T1 Panel Bus has risen in value — across the board. As with any Hot Wheels casting that has releases valued in the triple digits, it’s always fun to see what collectors thought of the casting before it was a flipper’s dream. This orange Reese’s Pieces bus didn’t sit long in those grocery store shippers that held the 2012 Pop Culture / Hershey’s series, but it wasn’t immediately scooped up either. It was a new casting making its debut in the line collector’s have deemed the “Real Riders donor line”, and most of the reason non-VW collectors even looked at the casting was because of the value… Read more »
  • The classy McLaren F1 GTR returns to Hot Wheels Car Culture wearing Gulf Racing attire (again)The classy McLaren F1 GTR returns to Hot Wheels Car Culture wearing Gulf Racing attire (again)
The Hot Wheels #McLaren F1 GTR is back in #Car Culture and, once again, is wearing a #Gulf Racing livery. This time, the #2021 Hot Wheels release wears a light blue paint that more closely resembles Gulf’s “Powder Blue”. Hot Wheels McLaren F1 GTR from the 2021 Car Culture / British Horsepower Series (with the 2019 Gulf mix release) Why was #Gulf Racing chosen for the #McLaren F1 GTR once again? I don’t know the actual reason, but there is a good chance it’s because the first release in dark blue was released two years ago in 2019 — despite some cars from that Gulf Racing series still hanging on the pegs of my local Target — and it was easily the most popular car from that mix. You’d be hard-pressed to find any of those hanging today, as collectors gobbled those up back in early 2019. #Gulf Racing has… Read more »
